The Challenge Network-London

I worked at the Challenge in 2012, I worked on both the Summer and Autumn programmes, this was a great experience for me. I was able to learn so much about the city of London by doing this programme and engaging with young people from various boroughs across London as well as the great co- workers i met and became friends with till this day.

The Challenge is a programme for 16-19 year olds, it is part of the National Citizen Service (NCS),  its a life-changing experience for young people. This scheme is available to young people from all backgrounds. Young people get the chance to do outdoor activities, meet new people and give something back to their communities. By taking part they learn new skills that look great on thier CV College and University applications.

Being a Mentor for young people is one of the best things I have done in my life. I love being a positive role model and encouraging young people to do their best in anything they set thier mind to do. I also love encouraging young people to get involved in thier local community. Getting to know thier neighbours and helping those in need.

Here is a photo of my team of young people and I working on our presentation.

I was a Mentor for the Sports Team.  The best team :)

This year I will be working on the summer programme for the challenge, I have not quite yet decided if I would like to be a Programme Leader or Mentor this time around. I know I enjoy working closely with young people, so onlytime will tell what role I do chose. The Challenge Network is a great place to work. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Saying Goodbye to my young people is always heartbreaking, I loved being able to change some of their negatives into positives.  Being a change in their lives is so refreshing for me.  I would encourage all young people to get involved in the Challenge.
